It's been 10 years since Kolkata Knight Riders first made a place in your heart with a superlative show on the opening day of the Indian Premier League in 2008.
As we continue this special journey, here is a look back at the top 10 wickets taken by KKR bowlers in the IPL over the last nine seasons. Enjoy the ride!
Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid have shaped the history of Indian cricket for the better. However the beauty of IPL is such that it pits the very best of the country's talent against the other in front of passionate Indian fans, a fact rarely seen in domestic cricket. The Ganguly bowler vs Dravid the batsman contest has been an interesting one with both players having a great banter on it, as a viral video from one of their commentary stints in England revealed. However on this night at Eden it was DADA who had the final laugh.
A Pakistani bowler steaming into bowl against two star Indian batsmen in front of a boisterous 70,000 plus Indian crowd. The bowler dismissed the batsmen! Crowd goes wild, not with anger but with delight. The IPL was here to stay! Yes, this was the scenario when Shoaib Akhtar, playing for KKR, dismissed DD (and then India) opening duo Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. Both were rising deliveries outside the offs-tump and Sehwag, Gambhir succumbed against the extra bounce to be caught behind and at backward point respectively.
In a match, where everything that could have gone wrong for KKR indeed did, there was a lone bright spot. The famed Akhtar vs Sachin battle resumed at the Wankhede when MI began their paltry chase of 68 for victory. Shoaib got Tendulkar out of the third ball for a duck in the first over.
Our bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji joined the Purple Brigade as a player in 2011. His vital contributions have often been the backbone of many KKR victories. Up against a power-packed RCB batting line-up, Balaji's spell of 4/18 earned him the MoM award. One of his victims was AB de Villiers.
2012 was the first time that Sunil Narine played in KKR colours. The off-spinner made a big impact in an away game at Mumbai by dismissing none other than Sachin Tendulkar, bowled.
Making his maiden appearance for KKR, injury-prone Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins made an immediate impact. Up against Dwayne Smith, a player who had formed a deadly opening duo with B McCullum for CSK, Cummins bowled what could easily be described as one of the deliveries of the tournament.
Any time a bowler dismisses Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in one T20 game, he deserves to be on the winning side. Thankfully for KKR, that was exactly the case as that man Sunil Narine weaved his magic yet again. The delivery to dismiss ABD may not have been like some of Narine's previous dream wickets but it was still enough to ensure a playoffs spot for KKR.
An Australia v South Africa battle in an IPL game! Yes, these are among the many interesting sub-plots that add to the drama of this league. David Warner and Morne Morkel have been involved in many battles in the past for their respective countries. On this night at Eden Gardens, this rivalry turned out to be a damp squib as Morkel delivered the knock-out punch early on.
Just like any other top bowler, Sunil Narine always targets the best batsman in the opposition. Rohit Sharma found out that harsh reality as a batsman during the 8th edition of the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium.
Piyush Chawla has been a consistent performer for KKR over the last 3 years. His pedigree as a leg-spinner has seen him come up with the goods on more than one occasion. In KKR's opening game of the 2016 season against DD at Eden Gardens, Chawla produced a moment of sheer magic against Chris Morris.
So which one was your favourite?
