India were put into bat first on a sluggish looking surface but Rohit Sharma was unbothered by the occasion as he took on the Aussies in the same aggressive fashion as he has done all tournament long. India were off to a solid start despite losing Gill early but once they lost Rohit, the momentum completely shifted towards Australia. The fabled pair Kohli & KL battled it out on the tough pitch to keep India in the game. However, wickets at constant intervals helped Aussies keep the stranglehold on the game. India battled their way through to 240 after the important contributions of Rohit, KL, Kohli.

The Indian pacers went hard at the start defending a modest total. The aggressive approach resulted in a couple of quick wickets. Team India were on an absolute roll once Bumrah got rid of Smith. However, Head & Labuschagne steadied the ship and built a good partnership. Their quality of partnership took them ahead despite the hard fought efforts from India in the field. Travis Head reached a magnificent century as Australia completed the run-chase comfortably, winning their 6th World Cup. Team India fought hard till the end and played their hearts out.
