Team India faced the Lankan Lions at the Wankhede Stadium in a contest that promised to be a tough fought one. India came into the game with all the momentum in the world and gunning to put another win in their bag. The fans were eager to see their stars perform at their fullest of potential & intensity.

India were putting into bat first and faced a challenge early doors as they lost Rohit’s wicket early. The pitch looked a tacky one and the ball wasn’t coming onto the bat. However the pair of Kohli & Gill steadied India’s ship and put on a record 189-run partnership to provide the perfect launchpad towards a big score. Shreyas Iyer used the momentum to perfection as he took on the bowlers from the outset and piled up the runs in quick time. The innings got perfect final touches courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja’s antics as they finished on a massive score of 357.

As the chase began, the Indian seamers wreaked havoc right from the start as both the opening bowlers dismissed both the openers on golden ducks which created a record for itself. Siraj & Bumrah dismantled the Lankan top-order whereas Shami ran through the middle order as SL were reduced to as low as 14/6 chasing a score of 358. The pacers were relentless in their attack and allowed no respite for the SL batters. The Indian bowling proved to be too hot to handle as Sri Lanka were bundled out for a score of just 55 giving India a massive 302-run win. Along with this win, India became the first team to qualify for the Semi-finals of this World Cup. India proved to be too good today at Wankhede as they will look to continue to bag wins in their next games and finish at the top of the table.
