Andre Russell was promoted up the order to bat at No.3 against Mumbai Indians. After a flying 96-run start from Shubman Gill & Chris Lynn, the platform was set for KKR to score big and they put up a magnificent show with 15 sixes and 21 fours.
The finishing touch came from Andre Russell who blasted his way to an unbeaten 80 off just 40 balls. His knock lit up Eden Gardens in our final IPL 2019 game at home. In the post match presentation, Dre Russ highlighted the following after our emphatic 34-run win.
On being a superhero with special powers!
AR: “Yes, I am a fan of (Avengers), have been watching it for a while. If the fans say that I am a hero, I’m happy. For me, the hand-eye coordination, a good bat speed and balance is important. One needs to make sure that your body is fit in order to play those upward shots in those moments. I generate a lot of power from my shoulders and core.”
On his new unique shot
AR: “Oh! That shot over the covers was a surprise for me as well.”
On 2 important games left for KKR
AR: “Well we have given ourselves a chance and hopefully the result in the next two games goes our way.”
On the par score last night and his current form…
AR: “Definitely, one of my best T20 days. We needed to get 200 plus but 230 was just enough, if it would have been just around 200, we might have been on the losing end. More importantly we kept our heads calm under pressure and executed our plans well.”
Dre Russ also contributed with the ball and had figures of 2/25 to back his blistering knock. We hope to finish our league games with a high and make it to the Vivo IPL 2019 playoffs.
