The metropolitan city of Mumbai has always produced high-quality batters in their 'maidans' and Shreyas Iyer is one such player whose natural ability is on display every time he walks onto the field with the bat in his hand. Born on 6th December 1994 in Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer has established himself as one of the best middle-order batters going around in Indian Cricket. Shreyas began his career quite early in his age and was determined to become a premier batter for the Indian team. A young Shreyas was noticed by coach Pravin Amre and needless to say he was impressed.
Shreyas made his domestic debut for Mumbai in November 2014 on the back of these impressive performances, and continued a great run in all the formats. Moreover, he had a break-out IPL season just next year where he scored 439 runs in 14 games and was awarded the Emerging Player of 2015. Iyer continued to score runs for fun for the next couple of years at the domestic levels where he averaged over 50. Shreyas finally was picked for the Indian team in 2017 against New Zealand T20I series and Sri Lanka ODI series. He found a home in the middle order, and started to make impressive performances at the international level.
Iyer made a significant place in International Cricket and made a permanent place for himself at no 4. On the other hand, he was picked by KKR as their captain as well. However, he got sidelined multiple times due to injuries through the last few years. These injuries continued to hamper his career as he had to miss 2023 IPL for KKR after an impressive 2022 season. After a surgery & missing multiple months of cricket, Shreyas made his return at the ICC World Cup 2023, where he amassed 530 runs along with a hundred in the semi-final, playing a pivotal role in helping India reach the finals.
After battling through injuries, performing under pressure situations and understanding many important aspects of the sport, Shreyas has become an experienced campaigner and grown as a cricketer. He arrives for the first-time ever to Kolkata as KKR's skipper alongside Gautam Gambhir who was the first individual to believe in Iyer the captain. Shreyas will be looking ahead towards this season as one of the most important seasons with lots to look forward to.
