A Chartered Accountant Student, an avid WWE supporter, and an incredible all-rounder - Venkatesh Iyer can pull off all of this. Born on December 25, 1994 in Indore, MP, Venkatesh has established himself as a truly versatile individual who seems to master any skill he picks up.
Venkatesh started representing the Railways in 2015 while pursuing his academic career side-by-side. After passing the CA Intermediate Exams, Iyer decided to drop off from there and join MBA so that he can manage both cricket and academics. However, cricket proved to be his strong suit as he kept on achieving incredible highs in the domestic circuit. His big break-out season was 2021-22 where he top-scored for MP in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and continued that form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well as he scored at an average of 63 and strike rate of over 133 in the lower middle order.
On the back of these sensational performances, Iyer was picked by KKR ahead of IPL 2021. The Knight Riders, unearthed Venkatesh at the top of the order in the second phase of the season in UAE. He became a key player for KKR very quickly and played a big role in propelling KKR to reach finals that season. Venkatesh symbolized the approach KKR wanted to play with. On the back of the IPL performance, he got an India call-up as well where he went on to display impressive performances.
As the 2024 season inches closer, Venkatesh will be an important player for KKR and will have a lot of responsibility to adapt & perform in various different situations and positions. His growth as a cricketer has been incredible and another chapter in his journey commences this season.
